Why a mobile site is vital to the success of your business

Are you ready for the Google mobile website changes?How many times have you gone to a website on your phone and you quickly realize the site is not mobile friendly? You can barely read the text, can’t find their phone number, the pages load slowly, and none of the links on the website are thumb-friendly? If you’re like the majority of people searching online you don’t stay on those websites very long, and Google realizes this as well.

So are you ready for April 21st, 2015? On this day, the Google algorithm will begin to punish websites that aren’t built mobile friendly. Google is making this change because mobile search is outpacing desktop search in 2015 and Google aims to provide its users with the most relevant local search results.

According to Google, 94% of people with smartphones search for local information on their phones.  As a result, not having a mobile friendly website will now make you less visible online which will eventually impact your bottom line.

I recently had a client tell me; “I spent a ton of money on my website, and I love it. Why would I invest more money into a mobile website when my regular site works just fine?”  I completely understood his frustration because investing in the design of a quality website can be a huge investment. However, nearly half of consumers say they won’t return to a website if it doesn’t load properly on their mobile device. Would you willingly turn away half of the customers that walked to your door today? Obviously, the answer is no!

Currently, mobile search is the most common starting point for consumers when they start to make a purchasing decision and over half of Google searches are being conducted on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

If you take anything away from this blog post, I hope you realize that mobile search truly matters and having a mobile site makes it easier for people to do business with you online. Don’t miss out on the opportunity for growth in 2015 because you failed to embrace the value of having a mobile friendly website.
